Clara Maass to Offer Free Weight-Loss Surgery Informational Sessions
By Clara Maass Medical Center
12/7/2009

Are you considering weight loss surgery? Clara Maass Medical Center will offer free informational sessions, "About Bariatric Surgery," on December 9, in the Main Lobby of the West Hudson Division located at 206 Bergen Avenue, Kearny, NJ, and on December 16, in the Belleville Founders Room at Clara Maass Medical Center located at 1 Clara Maass Drive, Belleville, NJ. Both sessions will be held from 6-7 p.m.

Naveen Ballem, M.D., Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center will discuss what to expect during and after the surgery as well as the surgery’s benefits and risks.

"Weight loss surgery is a big commitment and lifestyle change," said Dr. Ballem. "Patients need to be dedicated to the entire process, which goes beyond surgery. In order to improve their quality of life, patients have to commit to a healthier lifestyle which involves changes in diet, exercise and behavior."

To register for either seminar, please call Maria Rivera, bariatric coordinator, at 973-450-2393. Attendees may park for free in the parking deck at either location. Attendees are welcome to stay for the post-bariatric surgery support group following the seminars at 7 p.m.
