On Thursday night , November 19, at the Long Hill Senior Center, 769 Valley Road, Gillette N.J., a rare double bill jazz concert featuring some of the country’s top jazz musicians will take plake place at the American Music Jazz Legends awards concert. It will feature The Stein Brothers Quintet and The Champian Fulton Trio and a special appearance by legendary Oklahoma jazz trumpeter Stephen Fulton, with tributes from Wynton Marsalis and Slide Hampton and other jazz celebrities.
-The show starts at 7 p.m. and includes refreshments and meet and greet with the artists and CD signings.
-Admission is $20 at the door. All are invited
-The Stein Brothers are 27 year-old prodigies known for thier charisma, unique brand of melodic bebop, and beautiful spin on classics and originals. They are also known in the business for thier impeccable talent, discipline, gentlemanly manner and IQ. They will be receiving the award for Best Jazz Group in America and Best New Jazz Album in America ’Quixotic’ which has recieved rave reviews.
-Champian Fulton is a beautiful, charming and outrageously talented 23 year-old jazz singer who moved from Oklahoma several years ago to NYC and has had a steady gig at the famed Birdland Jazz Club for at least 3 years. She is gaining national attention with her uncanny command of all of the old jazz standards with a voice that has been compared by critics to Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Rosemary Clooney, stars of yesteryear as well as the contemporary Norah Jones. Her effervescent personality and breathtaking ability on the piano are rich, whether romping through a Louis Jordan classic, soulfully delivering ’When Your Lover Has Gone’ or playfully delighting the audience with Jimmy McHugh’s ’I Can’t Give You Anything But Love". She receives standing ovations from audiences of all ages.
-Champian will receive the award for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Jazz Piano Player in America, 2009. There will be a special performance by her father, legendary jazz trumpeter all the way from Oklahoma, Stephen Fulton.
-There will be tributes from jazz royalty to encourage these fast rising stars.
-It will be quite a night in Jazz history and a rare treat for our area.
