On Saturday, November 14th at 6 pm, the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts welcomed over one hundred and fifty guests to the annual wine tasting fundraiser, Wine & Song.
Held at One Giralda Farms, in Madison, guests celebrated the Museum’s ruby (40th ) anniversary. Vendors from Gary’s Wine & Marketplace offered patrons samples of a variety of wines. Attendees had the opportunity to nibble on a spread of delicious hors d’oeuvres provided by Whole Foods. To help make the evening magical, the Celtic harp and flute duo, Glendalough’s Muse performed their enchanting music throughout the evening.
There were over fifty silent auction baskets that featured numerous items form tickets to sporting events to jewelry, to golf outings to vacation homes. In addition a signature sled pin designed by Jon Elliot of Emerson Elliott - Goldsmith, Silversmith & Jewelers/ was auctioned off.
A highlight of the evening was the honoring of The Provident Bank by the Museum’s Board of Trustees. Provident is celebrating its 170th anniversary and was acknowledged for their long-time support of the Museum and its diverse programming and events. In addition the Board also honored Meg Wastie, the Museum’s Education Coordinator. Meg has developed the Museum’s successful education department and its programs and has continuously dedicated herself to the Museum, its staff and the thousands of Museum visitors each year.
All proceeds from Wine & Song directly benefited the Museum’s educational programs and the preservation and maintenance of the Museum’s home, the James Library Building.
The Trustees would like to thank all those who helped make this year’s Wine & Song a success, especially the hardworking, dedicated staff who continues to go above and beyond what is asked of them.
Regular Museum admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, students & children and FREE for Members. Family maximum admission $13.00. The Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Sunday Noon to 5 P.M. Closed Mondays & Major Holidays. (SUMMER HOURS- July & August, Tuesday-Saturday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Closed Sunday & Monday.) Housed in a 1900 Richardsonian-Romanesque Revival building listed on the National Register of Historic places, the Museum explores 18th- and 19th-century American history, with a focus on New Jersey. Drawing on its collection of over 8,000 hand tools and their products, METC uses material culture to interpret the lives and technologies of people who lived and worked before the rise of large-scale industrialization in this country. The Museum offers visitors of all ages a broad range of changing exhibits, and related programs that address many facets of early American history, craftsmanship, and the diversity of trades performed by men and women.
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts received a General Operating Support Grant from the Borough of Madison, Charles Read Foundation, F.M. Kirby Foundation and Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
