The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce an exhibit by multimedia artist Lydia R. Watson of Plainfield in the gallery space at the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, 633 Pearl Street in Elizabeth. A selection of her work is on display at the Pearl Street Gallery through December 3. Gallery hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
"The exhibit entitled ‘Plainfield in 2008 through the Eyes of Watsart’ is by 2008 HEART Grant award-winning acrylic/multimedia artist Lydia R. Watson," said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella. "We are proud to see the work of one of Plainfield’s talented artists shown in the beautiful and historic St. John’s Parsonage."
The prints in this exhibit are of paintings that incorporate photography, acrylic, watercolor and oil pastel on paper. Watson’s subject is Plainfield, its people, architecture and culture. She has explored inner city places and situations that aren’t usually seen as subjects of beauty and brought them to vivid life. The exhibit originally toured at the Plainfield Public Library, the Neighborhood Health Facility in Plainfield, the Scotch Plains Public Library, and the Elizabeth Public Library before coming to the Pearl Street Gallery. It can also be viewed on-line at www.lrwatsonartist.com.
Lydia R. Watson studied at Nevads Art Studio in Dunellen and the duCret School of Art in Plainfield. She has shown her work as far away as Beijing, China, and at numerous venues in her home state, including the Atrium Gallery of Morristown, the Barron Arts Center in Woodbridge, the Joyce Golden Palette Gallery in New Brunswick, the Highland Park Library, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, the PNC Bank Arts Center - Arts and Heritage Festival, and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange.
Union County artists (whose works can be hung on a wall) interested in exhibiting in the gallery space are welcome to apply.
