Learn How to Reduce Your Risk of Colon Cancer, November 11
By Saint Barnabas Medical Center
11/2/2009

The Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, will hold, Take Charge of Your Life: Reducing Your Risk of Colon Cancer, a community program to learn how to reduce your risk of getting this disease. The program will be on November 11, 2009 at 6 p.m. in Conference Rooms A/B in the Ambulatory Care Center, located on 200 South Orange Avenue, Livingston.

Debra Tarantino, MD, FACS will lead the program and discuss the progress made in the fight against colon cancer and the identification of potential risk factors. She will also discuss inherited colon cancer syndromes and screening guidelines for early detection.

Colon cancer is the second largest cancer killer in the U.S. and yet, with recommended screening it is almost entirely preventable. The unfortunate reality is many people do not get screened due to fear and embarrassment.

Dr. Tarantino is the Chair of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. She is Board-Certified in General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Bucknell University and her Doctor of Medicine at SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and was a Fellow in Colon and Rectal Surgery at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital in NYC.

To register for this event, please call 1.888.SBHS.123 (1.888.724.7123), and press option 4. You can also email teamlink@sbhcs.com with your contact information and the name of the program in the subject line to register.
