- On July 6, 2009 at approximately 4:27 P.M. Ptl. Paul Kosakowski arrested 21 year old Shanell Betts of East Orange N.J. and 23 year old Jenny Clermont of Jersey City N.J. and charged them with shoplifting. Madison Police received a call from the Stop and Shop reporting an employee theft at the store. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the manager and store security who had observed the two store employees under ringing merchandise while they were viewing the store surveillance video. Apparently, Betts had only rung up $22.81 for merchandise that was worth $184.34 which Clermont had brought to Betts register. After a brief investigation, both were arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, Clermont was found to be in possession of a butterfly knife which was on her person. She was additionally charged with possession of a weapon. After processing, both individuals were released pending their court appearance.
- On July 7, 2009 at approximately 3:38 P.M. Ptl. Sean Plumstead arrested 33 year old Wilfredo Zepeda of Morristown N.J. on the strength of a $250.00 Dover warrant. Ptl. Plumstead had randomly run Zepada’s plate and discovered that the vehicle he was operating was unregistered while traveling on Route 24. During the subsequent stop, the warrant for his arrest was discovered by the officer. He was ultimately arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. After posting bail he was issued summonses for being unregistered and unlicensed and released pending his court appearance.
- On July 7, 2009 at approximately 9:53 P.M. Sgt. Joseph Cirella arrested 62 year old Donald Baduini of Madison N.J. and charged him with defiant trespass. While on patrol, Sgt. Cirella had witnessed Baduini on the property of a Woodland Rd. residence to which a trespass warning had been given on numerous occasions in the past. Baduini claimed to be on the property because he shovels snow there. He was then placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released pending his court appearance.
- On July 7, 2009 at approximately 10:23 P.M. Ptl. Kenneth Shannon and Ptl. Sean Plumstead arrested 18 year old Phillip Rivera of Elizabeth N.J. and charged him with underage possession of alcohol. Officers had stopped Rivera on Rt. 24 for speeding and failure to keep right. During the traffic stop, officers discovered one bottle of brandy and arrested Rivera. After processing he was released pending his court appearance.
- On July 7, 2009 at approximately 10:57 P.M. Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested 18 year old Cord Schlobohm of Chatham and a 17 year old for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. As officer Papamarkos was traveling through the Burger King parking lot he detected a strong odor of burning marijuana. He noticed two individuals in the rear of the lot and investigated the source of the odor. After a brief inquiry, both individuals were arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to police headquarters for processing. After processing Schlobohm was released pending his court appearance and the juvenile was released to a parent.
- On July 9, 2009 at approximately 9:21 P.M. Ptl. Christopher Keller arrested 20 year old Anna Valle and 20 year old Elizabeth Booker of Chatham and charged them with possession of alcohol under the legal age to do so. Officer Keller had stopped the driver, Elizabeth Booker, for speeding 40 M.P.H. in a 25 M.P.H. zone on Woodland Rd. During the motor vehicle stop Officer Keller noticed three 30 packs of beer in the rear seat of the Cadillac she was driving. After a brief investigation, both individuals were arrested for possession of the alcohol. After processing they were released pending their court appearance.
- On July 10, 2009 at approximately 2:25 P.M. Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested 43 year old Guisells Flores-Moya of Madison on the strength of a $200.00 Madison warrant. Flores-Moya had turned herself into police headquarters to satisfy the outstanding warrant. After posting bail she was released pending her court appearance.
- On July 10, 2009 at approximately 5:01 P.M. Ptl. Kenneth Shannon and Ptl. Sean Plumstead arrested 47 year old Donald Hathaway Jr. of Basking Ridge N.J. and charged him with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. While on patrol, the officers were behind Hathaway and noticed his turn signal activated at a red light on Greenvillage Rd. When he proceeded forward he did not commit to the turn and nearly caused a collision with another vehicle. During the subsequent stop he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested after sobriety evaluations. After processing he was released to friend pending his court appearance.
- On July 11, 2009 at approximately 2:15 A.M. Sgt. Peter Iossa arrested 21 year old James M. Cannizzo of Montville N.J. and charged him with driving while intoxicated. While on patrol, Sgt. Iossa had witnessed Cannizzo traveling at a high rate of speed on Main St and then make an abrupt turn onto Greenwood Ave in an unsafe manner. Sgt. Iossa stopped the vehicle on Alexander Ave for the violations and determined that the driver, James Cannizzo, was under the influence of alcohol. After sobriety evaluations he was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. While at headquarters an outstanding $500.00 Lincoln Park warrant was discovered for Cannizzo’s arrest. After processing he was released to a friend pending his court appearance. He was also charged with possession of an open alcohol container within a motor vehicle (vodka bottle), driving with a suspended license and careless driving. He was released R.O.R. on the outstanding warrant pending his court appearance in Lincoln Park.
- On July 12, 2009 at approximately 11:53 A.M. Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested 44 year old Craig Burns of Madison on the strength of a $180.00 Plainfield warrant. Ptl. Papamarkos had witnessed Burns enter a vehicle and was aware of the outstanding warrant. He stopped the vehicle at the Madison Train Station and took Burns into custody. After processing he was turned over to the Plainfield Police Department.
The Madison Police Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to approximately 24 medical emergencies during the week.
The Madison Police Department investigated 6 motor vehicle crashes during the week.
