On Friday, February 12, 2010 at 5:49 pm, Ptl. Ron DeSimoni and Detective Joseph Williams responded to a Hamilton Avenue residence to investigate a report of an attempted burglary. The victim reported that while she was out of the residence during the afternoon hours, someone had attempted to enter the residence by smashing a rear window, but did not gain entry. The scene was processed by Det. Williams and the matter is currently under investigation.
On Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 1:00 am, members of the Berkeley Heights Police Department and Union County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Raul Jimenez-Segura, 50, of New Providence. The arrest was a result of an initial investigation which began on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, when Berkeley Heights Police responded to a local residence after receiving a report of a sexual assault which occurred. The investigation revealed that while Jimenez-Segura was in the residence he approached the homeowner’s nine year old daughter and touched her inappropriately over her clothing. The crime occurred while the victim and Jimenez-Segura were in a separate room from the victim’s parents. Jimenez-Segura then left the scene prior to police arrival. Detectives were able to locate Jimenez-Segura at a Liberty Avenue residence in Union, with documents that led investigators to believe that the suspect was attempting to leave the United States for Guatemala. He was taken into custody and Jimenez-Segura was charged with aggravated sexual contact and bail was set at $150,000.00 by Union County Superior Court Judge Dupis. The investigation was conducted by Berkeley Heights Detectives Joseph Williams and Patrick Moran and Union County Prosecutors Detectives Johnson and Santos.

Gillens was sweating and extremely nervous and the subsequent investigation revealed that he had used narcotics prior to operating the motor vehicle. Gillens was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana, which were located in his pants pocket. Gillen was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and careless driving. Gillens was given a court date to appear in Union County Superior Court and released on his own recognizance.

Jardine, 21, of Stewartsville, NJ and Randy L. Raisner Jr., 25, of Bangor, PA. Mimitsch was the operator of a 1995 GMC that was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. A warrant check revealed that Cicale was wanted in Brevard County Florida for burglary and held a no bail warrant. Cicale was placed under arrest and at that point, Ptl. Gallaro observed suspected heroin on the floor where he had been seated. A subsequent search of all parties and the motor vehicle revealed additional heroin, cocaine and hypodermic needles. All four individuals were brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with possession heroin, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
