Neighborhood Watch Alert - New Providence
By New Providence Deputy Chief of Police Scott Torre
2/12/2010

I am writing to report we have been experiencing an increase in car burglaries. We have had a total of four this week on Elkwood Ave, Osborne Ave, Edgewood Ave, and Inwood Road. We believe the burglaries are occurring in the evening or early morning hours. All of the vehicles were unlocked and items removed were easy to carry, loose change, GPS units. At this time, the burglaries are concentrated in a particular location, but the one common denominator is all of the vehicles were left unlocked.

As a reminder, please remember to lock your cars, remove you garage door openers, which are like keys to your homes and leave exterior lights on to discourage burglars.

Our Community Services Bureau is actively investigating these crimes. Anyone who observes any type of suspicious behavior are requested to call 665-1111 or 911 and report these incidents. Please keep you cars, garages and house doors and windows locked.

This is all of the information we have at this time. If any other information becomes available I will send another bulletin.

Thanks for helping us keep the town safe.
